"The Pink Gambit" - Annie Grills

Oil Paint + Oil Pastel on Linen

91.3 cm x 121.7 cm

Annie Grills is a self-taught artist based on her family’s cattle property in northern New South Wales. It’s a place with deep family roots, where she lives with her husband and two daughters, who are now the eighth generation to grow up on the property. Working predominantly in oils, Annie’s paintings are bold, colourful and expressive, with a particular love of pattern, imperfect brushwork and the slightly unexpected. Her subject matter moves between still life, animals and the world around her, finding inspiration in the ordinary and giving it a more colourful, playful interpretation. Influenced by artists who favour colour and character over perfection, Annie’s work is intentionally loose, layered and full of personality. Her practice is grounded in the belief that art doesn’t always need to be serious to be taken seriously.
