Karen Boshoff-Smith is a South African Born Artist, now an Australia citizen living in Armidale, NSW. Karen was born into a family of artists and industrial designers. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria and Architecture at the Inscape Design College. Karen has also completed her Trade Certificate in Picture Framing and Sign Writing. For the past 24 years she has actively operated her own design studio focusing on: illustration, design and photography - internationally since 2002. Karen Boshoff-Smith is a multidisciplinary artist. Her architectural influence can be seen in the muted nature of colours in her work. Her compositions prefer the details and subject to take centre stage through use of primarily black and white photography, pen and ink / charcoal drawings and muted tones in her mixed media paintings. Karen has exhibited at ‘Parktown Gallery’ and ‘Spark! Gallery’ in Johannesburg, ‘Gallery Downtown’ as part of the Tweed Shire Regional Gallery and has recently begun showing her works at various art prizes. Her work has featured on book covers, inside magazines, on billboards and as part of several large collaborative installation works with her father, a conceptual installation artist in South Africa. Karen has been involved in the arts as far back as she can remember. Growing up in galleries and experiencing architecture all over the world, a creative vocation was always the inevitable result of her passion for the visual arts. She has primarily engaged in commissioned projects as opposed to exhibitions. Since immigrating to Australia, she has gained a keen interest to exhibit actively.
