Grounded in Colour - Sam Baker

Pencil and Watercolour on Paper

This artwork is a still-life composition created from direct observation. I focused on arranging the objects so they feel balanced and connected to the surface, creating a grounded and stable composition. I used lead pencil to establish the forms, details and tonal areas before introducing watercolour. The addition of transparent colour brings warmth and atmosphere to the arrangement while allowing the pencil work to remain visible. I explored how line, tone and colour can work together to create depth and a sense of realism.
